What kind of watch this is

Resident Evil is a 100-minute 2002 action-horror film directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. It takes the premise of a secret underground facility and turns it into a contained disaster movie. A virus leaks, the scientists turn into zombies, and the lab animals become something worse than the scientists. The government sends in an elite military team to clean up the mess. Milla Jovovich plays Alice. It is loud, fast, and unapologetically camp. The tension comes from knowing exactly what is around the corner, not from surprise.

What the critics said

The critics were not kind. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 36% as of August 2024, based on 162 reviews. The consensus calls it loud, violent, and formulaic. Metacritic agrees, landing at 35 out of 100 with generally unfavorable reviews. Audiences fared slightly better, giving it a "B" on CinemaScore. Robert K. Elder of the Chicago Tribune saw a genre update with an anti-corporate message. Owen Gleiberman of Entertainment Weekly called it impersonal. Roger Ebert, who listed it among his most hated films, found the dialogue devoid of small talk. The film screams, but mostly in binary.
