What kind of watch this is
Harry is a doctor in a small Colorado town, but he is also an alien sent to destroy humanity. He wrestles with the moral dilemma of his mission, asking if human beings are worth saving. He is now stuck in a clinic, dealing with a murder mystery, a mayor’s son who sees through his disguise, and the general absurdity of small-town life. It runs 34 hours across 4 seasons. That is a lot of time to spend watching an extraterrestrial learn why people fold their pizza.
What the critics said
Season 1 landed with a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 31 reviews. The consensus notes it takes a minute to settle in, but then finds fresh humor. Metacritic scored it 70 out of 100, labeling the reception generally favorable. The second season hit 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, though that sample size is a mere 5 reviews. Small numbers, big confidence.
How it did with audiences
Resident Alien never hit theaters, so there is no ticket revenue to dissect. The score that matters here is the 7.8 TMDB user rating. That is a solid approval for a show about an alien doctor. It is a quiet success measured in stars rather than dollars.
