What kind of watch this is
Reservoir Dogs is a 99-minute crime thriller where a botched robbery indicates a police informant, and the pressure mounts in the aftermath at a warehouse. Quentin Tarantino directs a cast that includes Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, and Michael Madsen. The pressure is immediate and the dialogue is relentless. You will spend the entire runtime trying to figure out who is lying and who is about to die. It is not a story about the robbery. It is about the silence after the gun goes off.
What the critics said
Critics generally adored it, though the ear scene tested their nerves. Rotten Tomatoes rates it 90% as of 2022, while Metacritic scores it 81. Jami Bernard of the New York Daily News compared its impact to that early train film that supposedly made audiences duck. Roger Ebert, however, found the characters thin. He gave it two and a half stars, noting he "liked what I saw, but I wanted more." The violence was intense enough to send people fleeing.
How it did with audiences
A $1 million budget against $3 million worldwide is a solid return, though the story gets more interesting when you look at the UK. It grossed more than double its domestic numbers over there. TMDB users rate it 8.1 out of 10, while IMDb audiences give it 8.3 out of 10 as of February 2026. The film opened in just 19 theaters in the US, but the word spread. It seems audiences decided the movie was worth the wait, or at least the trip to the cinema.
