What kind of watch this is
Renegade Immortal is an animated drama that trades the usual hero’s journey for a survival manual. Wang Lin lacks natural talent, so he compensates with patience, traps, and a willingness to let others die. He is not a chosen one; he is a calculation. The series runs 80 hours across 200 episodes, a length that suggests the world is as unforgiving as the protagonist. It is a slow burn of strategic violence, where the antidote to bad luck is better planning. If you enjoy watching someone solve a murder puzzle except the puzzle is the entire plot, this is the watch.
What the critics said
The critics didn't just watch it; they dissected its emotional architecture. Tencent Video users gave it 9.4 out of 10, a score backed by 2.7 million reviews. That made it the highest-rated new domestic animation on the platform at the time. Yunhe Data later reported it held an 11% share of China's animation playback market by May 2025, peaking at 15.4%. It out-drew Battle Through the Heavens. The surprise? The audience wasn't just men. The Paper noted a surge in female viewers, crediting the show's focus on grief, family protection, and personal loss. It traded sword fights for tears, and the numbers say it worked.
How it did with audiences
Renegade Immortal skips the box office entirely, so there is no money to count. The audience verdict lives in a single number: 8.3 on TMDB. That is a TMDB user score. Viewers apparently preferred the silence between episodes to the noise of marketing.
