The critics were not kind. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 26% as of October 2024, with an average rating of 4.5/10. Metacritic’s 40/100 Metascore, reported in October 2025, confirms the reception was mixed at best. Lisa Schwarzbaum of Entertainment Weekly called it a "shameless contraption of ridiculously sad things befalling attractive people." She wasn’t alone in finding the script insufferable. Kirk Honeycutt of The Hollywood Reporter offered a rare compliment, noting the scenes between the leads "exude genuine charm." That charm, apparently, was not enough to save the rest.
