What kind of watch this is
Pluribus is a 2025 drama and sci-fi series created by Vince Gilligan. It stars Rhea Seehorn as Carol Sturka, one of 13 people immune to an alien virus that turned the rest of humanity into a peaceful hive mind. Carol fights to reverse the transformation while the hive mind politely waits for its chance to assimilate her. With 9 episodes running 46 minutes each, the entire series takes 7 hours to watch.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes reports a 99% approval rating from 186 critics, averaging 8.7 out of 10. Metacritic assigns a score of 87 out of 100, which it labels universal acclaim. The consensus is that Vince Gilligan delivers genuinely original science fiction, leading Rhea Seehorn through a brave new world. Nicholas Quah of Vulture called it "an entrancing piece of television." Linda Holmes of NPR found its philosophical frankness "more refreshing than didactic." Not everyone agreed. Ben Travers of IndieWire gave it a B+, noting that Gilligan’s devotion to process throws off the pacing. It is a show that demands you keep up, even when the map runs out.
How it did with audiences
Apple TV reports the first two episodes broke its drama launch viewership record, beating the Severance season 2 premiere. For the week ending November 16, 2025, it was the most-streamed original series in the US. Before the finale, the platform confirmed Pluribus became its most-watched series ever, surpassing Severance and Ted Lasso. It holds a 7.9 TMDB user score. The numbers suggest the audience didn't just watch; they camped out.
