The story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire's heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

Outlander collected 13 awards. Caitríona Balfe won the Saturn Award for Best Actress on Television in 2015 and 2016. Sam Heughan took the Saturn Award for Best Actor on Television in 2019. The series also claimed the Critics' Choice Television Award for Most Exciting New Series in 2014, plus People's Choice Awards in 2015, 2016, and 2017. It rounded out the tally with Satellite and Saturn honors for best cast and genre series. A steady diet of statuettes, mostly for the people who actually wear the kilts.
