What kind of watch this is
Off Campus is a 2026 drama about a tutor and a hockey captain who start with a transaction and end with something messier. Created by Louisa Levy, it runs 53 minutes per episode across 8 episodes, totaling 7 hours of watching two people realize the deal was never the point. The tone is dry, unapologetic, and entirely focused on the awkward gap between wanting someone and knowing them. It trades in the specific pain of being an adult who is still trying to figure out how to be one. If you have ever mistaken a favor for a feeling, this is your show.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes gives the first season a 92% approval rating based on 37 critic reviews. The consensus calls it a whirlwind adaptation that genuinely cares for the genre. Metacritic lands at 71, filing it under generally favorable. Angie Han of The Hollywood Reporter noted the series shines when the leads simply connect. Aramide Tinubu of Variety praised how side characters get their own moments to shine. Gavia Baker-Whitelaw of TV Guide called the teammates an oasis of consent kings. She also flagged the rom-com tropes as a little too glossy. Christina Izzo of The A.V. Club found the graphic sex scenes jarring snags. Critics praised the chemistry but questioned the dialogue and pacing.
How it did with audiences
Off Campus lands at 8.9 on the TMDB user score. That is a number that suggests the audience did not just watch it, but actually liked what they saw. Viewers tend to be harsh, so a near-perfect score implies the show cleared a high bar.
Where it left its mark
The second episode features a quiet moment where Garrett realizes his feelings for Hannah. The Beaches’ single "Edge of the Earth" plays over the scene. That specific track escaped the screen. It went viral on social media. The band gained over 5 million new monthly listeners on Spotify. The show did not set out to be a music video. It just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
