Nosferatu is a 2024 horror fantasy directed by Robert Eggers. It runs 133 minutes, a duration that feels like a long wait for the music to start. The hook is an obsession that refuses to stay in the shadows. Bill Skarsgård plays Count Orlok, a creature who wants what he cannot have. Lily-Rose Depp is Ellen, the woman who becomes the target of that desire.
What the critics said
Critics leaned toward approval. Rotten Tomatoes holds an 84% Tomatometer score as of August 2025. Metacritic sits at 78/100 as of October 2025, which it labels generally favorable. David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter found it "exciting, repulsive and beautiful". David Ehrlich of IndieWire called it the richest of Eggers' films. Not everyone agreed. John Mulderig of Catholic Review found it morally unbridled. That is a specific kind of problem to have.
How it did with audiences
The budget was $50 million. The worldwide gross hit $182 million. Deadline Hollywood calculated a net profit of $70 million, which is the kind of math that makes studio execs smile without showing their teeth. In the US and Canada, it pulled in $95.6 million, while the rest of the world added $86.2 million. It landed as Focus Features' second-highest domestic release and third-highest worldwide. On TMDB, users give it a 6.7. Audiences liked it enough to keep it in the top three for two weekends, then let it fade.
What came next for the cast
Nicholas Hoult traded superhero franchises for the cape in Superman. Bill Skarsgård moved from the horror of It to the historical of The Death of Robin Hood. Aaron Taylor-Johnson shifted from the Marvel universe to the apocalypse in 28 Years Later. The credits do not prove Nosferatu caused these pivots. They merely list what followed.
