Christy Lemire called Gyllenhaal “supremely creepy.” Christopher Orr of The Atlantic called him “tremendous.” Not everyone agreed. Richard Roeper found the performance merely good. He saw the character becoming a caricature. That is a fair counterpoint to the praise.

Nightcrawler cost $8 million to make and took in $47 million worldwide, which is a solid return for a film with a modest budget. In the United States, it earned $32 million. On TMDB, users rate it 7.7 out of 10.
What came next for the cast
Jake Gyllenhaal arrived with Donnie Darko and Prisoners, then stepped into Nocturnal Animals and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Bill Paxton, known for Titanic and The Terminator, later appeared in Term Life. The credits list these shifts. They do not prove Nightcrawler triggered them. Careers drift.
