But after the tragic (and still unsolved) murder of his wife Trudy, he developed an extreme case of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Now working as a private consultant, Monk continues to investigate cases in the most unconventional ways.

What kind of watch this is
Tony Shalhoub plays a detective whose 312 phobias are as central to the plot as the murders. The hook is the friction: Monk’s genius relies on noticing details, but his condition makes noticing dangerous. He is a man fighting his own mind while trying to fight a killer. The comedy comes from watching a man count tiles before he can step on them. The drama comes from the fact that he cannot stop. It is a procedural where the most dangerous suspect is the protagonist. You will spend 93 hours watching a man negotiate with a doorknob. It is funny because it is relentless.

Monk collected 11 wins from 29 nominations. Tony Shalhoub swept the lead actor category, taking the Primetime Emmy in 2003, 2005, and 2006, plus the SAG Award in 2004 and 2005. Randy Newman scored 2 Emmys for music. The series also recognized guest turns by John Turturro and Stanley Tucci. The title theme shifted from Jeff Beal to Randy Newman.
