What kind of watch this is
Matchbox the Movie is a 2026 action-comedy where a reunion turns into a nuclear heist. Sam Hargrave directs John Cena, Jessica Biel, and Arturo Castro as former friends who are drugged, kidnapped, and blamed for stealing a warhead. Their plan to clear their names involves stealing the bomb back. It runs 127 minutes, a duration that feels like a long car ride with people who have forgotten how to be quiet.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes sits at 24%, based on 34 reviews. That is not a warm welcome. The average score is 3.9 out of 10. Metacritic is slightly less brutal, landing on 34 out of 100 from 12 critics. It calls the reception "generally unfavorable," a phrasing that feels almost generous given the numbers. No single critic’s quote survives the data, but the consensus is clear: the box did not fit the contents.
How it did with audiences
On TMDB, users rate it 7.9 out of 10. No vote count is attached to that figure, so the number stands alone, unburdened by the usual statistical noise. In the US, the film claimed the top spot on the Apple TV viewing chart within its first 24 hours. It pushed past Mayday and F1 to sit at number one. Globally, it cracked the top 10 in 23 countries.
