What kind of watch this is
Matthew Vaughn directs this 141-minute film, where Eggsy and Harry Hart team up with the Statesman to save the world. It is a crime, comedy, and action hybrid that leans into its absurdity with a straight face. The tone is loud, colorful, and unapologetically silly. You will not find subtlety here, but you will find a lot of explosions. It is the kind of film that asks you to suspend your disbelief and then asks you to laugh at the result.

Metacritic lands on 44 out of 100, a score that suggests the film is neither good nor bad, just there. The consensus notes it offers more of what made the first fun but lacks the original spark. Amy Nicholson called it sincere even when insane, while Peter Travers found it wears you down with action. Critics who disliked it called it too long and too silly.
How it did with audiences
The budget was $104 million. The worldwide gross hit $411 million. That math works out to a healthy profit, provided you ignore the marketing bill that usually eats the rest. It opened with $39 million in the US and Canada, nudging past It for the top spot. It held that position the following week, eventually spending 5 weeks in the Top 10. On TMDB, users rate it 6.9 out of 10.
What came next for the cast
Egerton went from spy training to rock music and then to airport baggage, a trajectory that defies simple genre logic. Firth jumped from royal speech impediments to war trenches, while Moore left the arena of Mockingjay for domestic mysteries. Strong kept moving between codes, cracked soldiers, and Disney villains. The credits list these shifts, but they cannot prove the film caused them. It just happened to be the hinge where their paths diverged.
