What kind of watch this is

Paul Greengrass returns to direct Jason Bourne, and the camera shakes like it is afraid of the answer. The film runs 123 minutes, a tight sprint where every cut feels like a threat. It is not about who Bourne is; the CIA already decided that. It is about the cost of remembering a life that was never his. The tension comes from the silence between the gunshots, not the noise of them. If you liked the previous films, you know the rules. If you did not, this is the one that explains why the ground moves when he walks.

What the critics said

Rotten Tomatoes sits at 55% as of October 2024, with a weighted average of 5.9 out of 10. Metacritic lands on 58 out of 100, a score that generally signals mixed or average reception. The consensus is that the film offers exactly what fans expect, which is both its selling point and its flaw. Chris Tilly of IGN called it better than most action movies, though not enough to escape the shadow of the previous trilogy. A. O. Scott of The New York Times saw it as a movie about human resources challenges in a large bureaucracy.

How it did with audiences

Against a $120 million budget, the film hauled in $415 million worldwide. It pulled in $162 million domestically. That is a healthy margin for a spy thriller. On TMDB, users give it a 6.4 out of 10. The numbers say it worked. The ratings say it was fine.

What came next for the cast

Matt Damon traded the space of Interstellar and The Martian for the grounded stakes of Oppenheimer and Ford v Ferrari. Tommy Lee Jones moved from the sci-fi of Captain America to the gritty realism of Ad Astra and The Burial. Alicia Vikander stepped out of the procedural role of Ex Machina into the action of Tomb Raider and the fantasy of The Green Knight. The credits list these shifts. They cannot prove Jason Bourne caused them. It just happened to be the hinge.
