Maika Monroe plays Jay, a young woman trapped in this endless, silent pursuit after a single sexual encounter. The tension is not in jump scares, but in the suffocating knowledge that escape is a temporary state. It runs 101 minutes of pure, unbroken anxiety. A perfect film for anyone who wants the ending to rewrite the beginning.
How it did with audiences
It Follows never posted a box office figure that would make a studio executive pause for a thoughtful sip of coffee. The numbers simply aren’t there to calculate a return on investment. On TMDB, users rate it 6.6 out of 10. That score lands squarely in the territory of "solid but not essential." Viewers seem to have watched, thought about it, and moved on. The horror stayed in the theater, at least.
What came next for the cast
Maika Monroe moved from independent horrors to blockbuster tentpoles like Independence Day: Resurgence and The 5th Wave. Keir Gilchrist shifted from one-off film roles to a defining TV lead in Atypical. Jake Weary jumped from the absurdity of Zombeavers to the dread of It Chapter Two.
