What kind of watch this is
Fast X is a 2023 action thriller directed by Louis Leterrier, running 142 minutes. It follows Dominic Toretto, played by Vin Diesel, as he faces a threat from the past seeking blood revenge. Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson return as Letty and Roman. The tagline reads, "The end of the road begins." The premise is simple: a family that has outdriven every foe now confronts an opponent determined to shatter them.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes places the film at 56% as of December 2023, while Metacritic lands on 56 out of 100 as of January 2026. The verdict is mixed, which fits a movie that knows exactly how ridiculous it is. The consensus calls it "satisfyingly self-aware," a phrase that does a lot of heavy lifting for the stunt sequences. Audiences were happier than critics, with PostTrak reporting an 82% positive score. Jason Momoa’s turn as Dante drew the most specific praise, with critics finding him "hilarious" and full of charisma. Not everyone bought the chemistry, though. Richard Roeper saw a "preening, performance-art, sociopathic clown" rather than a genuine threat. The screenplay took the biggest hit, with reviewers noting that logic was "shot out of a cannon.
How it did with audiences
It cost $340 million and took in $714.4 million worldwide, a figure that sounds like a win until you read the fine print. Variety reported the film barely crawled into the black during its theatrical run, relying on home video and ancillary revenue for a modest profit. Universal’s share of the gross came to $357.2 million, a $20.8 million loss against its budget. Audiences on TMDB rate it 7 out of 10, a score that suggests the fun was real even if the accounting was not.
