What kind of watch this is
Josh Trank’s 2015 adaptation tries to ground cosmic chaos in suburban anxiety. It runs 100 minutes, a tight sprint through a plot where teleportation changes more than just your commute. Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, and Kate Mara play the team, whose new bodies make old problems look small. The hook is simple: change is coming, and it hurts. It is a film that believes in its own scale.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes reported a 9% score in October 2023, the lowest for any Marvel theatrical film as of 2025. Metacritic assigned it 27 out of 100 in November 2024. The consensus found it dull and misguided. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone called it "the cinematic equivalent of malware." Todd McCarthy of The Hollywood Reporter described it as "maddeningly lame.
How it did with audiences
It cost $120 million to make and pulled in $168 million worldwide. On TMDB, users give it a 4.4 out of 10. The opening weekend fell short of expectations, setting the tone for a theatrical run that struggled to find its footing.
What came next for the cast
Miles Teller stepped out of Whiplash and Divergent, both from 2014, to land Top Gun: Maverick years later. Michael B. Jordan moved from The Wire to Black Panther. Kate Mara followed Iron Man 2 with Morgan. Jamie Bell traded King Kong for Rocketman. The credits do not prove the 2015 film changed these paths. They only mark the time.
