What kind of watch this is
Peter Farrelly’s 1994 comedy relies on a simple engine: two men who are stupid in ways that defy description. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels play Lloyd and Harry, who find a lost suitcase and drive to Aspen to return it. The journey takes 107 minutes. The film does not try to be clever. It commits fully to the tagline’s promise that every day is a no-brainer. It is a test of your patience and your tolerance for the absurd.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes reports 67% positive reviews from critics, a figure that feels generous for a film centered on a frozen parrot. The consensus notes the movie is relentlessly stupid yet elevated by Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. Metacritic lands on 41 out of 100, a score that signals mixed or average reception. Roger Ebert gave it two stars, admitting the dead bird joke embarrassed him with laughter. He called Carrey a true original. Stephen Holden compared Carrey to Jerry Lewis. The film splits the difference between crudeness and cleverness.
