Rotten Tomatoes lists a 43% approval rating and a 4.8/10 average from rated reviews, as of late 2021 and 2022. Metacritic settles on a 46/100 Metascore, categorizing the reception as mixed or average. The consensus is that Stephen Lang remains a thrillingly imposing presence, even if the sequel struggles. John DeFore of The Hollywood Reporter called it "snicker-worthy at worst." Benjamin Lee of The Guardian was harsher, deeming it "an unforgivably dull piece of product." Audiences were slightly kinder, with CinemaScore giving it a B. The horror film that tried to rehabilitate its villain.

Don't Breathe 2 opened to $10.6 million in the United States and Canada, landing in second place behind Free Guy. It dropped 51% the following weekend to $5.1 million, then slid to $2.8 million in its third week. Globally, it collected $53.8 million, with $32.7 million coming from domestic audiences and $21.1 million from international markets. On TMDB, users rate it 7 out of 10. A solid start, though the steep decline suggests the horror crowd moved on quickly.
