What kind of watch this is

Steven Spielberg directs a 146-minute science fiction thriller that pairs a fleeing whistleblower with a meteorologist. The hook is simple: one man knows the truth about off-world visitors, and the other sees the weather behaving badly. They team up to prove the impossible, while a corporation hunts them down. It is a long film, but it earns the time by making paranoia feel personal rather than abstract. The tagline, "We deserve to know," does the heavy lifting. You are not here for the action; you are here to see if the truth is worth the fallout.

What the critics said

Rotten Tomatoes reports 79% positive reviews out of 442, averaging 7.2/10. Metacritic lands on 74 out of 100 from 63 critics, signaling generally favorable reception. David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter calls the film "spellbinding" and an essential addition to Spielberg’s work. David Ehrlich of IndieWire gives it a B+, noting it feels more like a conversation with Spielberg’s recent films than a spiritual sequel to Close Encounters. Robbie Collin of The Telegraph remains unconvinced, calling the plot woolly and the tone a bungled mix.

How it did with audiences

Disclosure Day cost $115 million and grossed $246.8 million worldwide. That is a healthy margin for a studio picture, though not a box office anomaly. On TMDB, users rate it 7.4 out of 10. It opened with $93 million globally, the highest opening for a Spielberg and Amblin original title not based on previous IP. David A. Gross noted that sci-fi thrives abroad because visual stories translate easily. The math worked out.
