Rotten Tomatoes reports a 95% approval rating from 63 critics, with an average score of 7.55/10. The consensus calls it a "knowingly absurd continuation that rediscovers the thrill of the hunt." Metacritic sits lower at 65 out of 100 based on 17 critics, labeling the reception "generally favorable." Not everyone bought the revival. Alison Herman of Variety called it "creatively unnecessary," while Kristen Baldwin of Entertainment Weekly deemed it "not essential viewing." Both still praised Michael C. Hall.
How it did with audiences
Dexter: Resurrection became Showtime's most-streamed premiere. It drew 3.1 million global cross-platform viewers within its first three days. That figure surpassed the streaming record set by Dexter: Original Sin. Viewership was 44% higher than Original Sin and 76% higher than Dexter: New Blood. On TMDB, users rate it 8.5 out of 10. The audience clearly did the math before the network did.
