What kind of watch this is
Detective Conan runs on a simple, almost unfair premise: a high school detective is shrunk into a child. The character is Jimmy Kudo, son of a famous mystery writer, who now solves crimes under the alias Conan Edogawa. The show mixes crime, mystery, and comedy in 25-minute episodes. With 1,218 episodes, the total watch time sits at 508 hours. That is a long time to spend watching a kid in a suit.
What the critics said
The American dub drew fire for its localization choices. IGN’s Jeffrey Harris called the character name changes pointless. Carl Kimlinger of Anime News Network argued that swapping Japanese cultural references made several mysteries illogical. Carlo Santos, reviewing the first Case Closed DVD for the same outlet, found the voice-overs a mixed bag. He said the main cast sounded like real people, while the secondary characters came off as caricatures.
