What kind of watch this is
Bodyguard is a 2018 series created by Jed Mercurio. It runs 6 hours total, spanning 6 episodes. The premise involves a troubled war veteran assigned to protect a controversial politician who may be the target of a terror plot. Trust is the central currency. It is a tight, 6-hour watch that never lets you settle. The first episode establishes the threat; the rest decide if you can believe the people around you.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes sits at 93%. Metacritic lands on 79. Variety’s Daniel D’Addario called it a "six-episode ride that demands, and rewards, a quick binge." Time’s Judy Berman noted it "subverts thriller tropes just often enough to earn its reliance on them." Dissent exists, but it is polite. Sophie Gilbert warned viewers not to expect too much, particularly when it comes to the show's lavish employment of archetypes. That is a fair warning, though likely the one detail most viewers will forget by the final twist.
How it did with audiences
On TMDB, users rate Bodyguard 7.8 out of 10. That is a solid score, suggesting the thriller landed for the people who pressed play. Since the box office data is missing, we cannot calculate the return on investment.
What came next for the cast
Madden arrived with Game of Thrones and Cinderella, then left for 1917 and Rocketman. The credits cannot prove Bodyguard caused that pivot. They can only note what followed. Hawes moved from The Bank Job to Rebecca. Rundle continued Peaky Blinders, returning in The Immortal Man. McKee’s path is quieter, from Atonement to My Policeman. These arcs do not align, but they share a starting point.
