Bob's Burgers follows a third-generation restaurateur, Bob, as he runs Bob's Burgers with the help of his wife and their three kids. Bob and his quirky family have big ideas about burgers, but fall short on service and sophistication. Despite the greasy counters, lousy location and a dearth of customers, Bob and his family are determined to make Bob's Burgers "grand re-re-re-opening" a success.

What kind of watch this is
Bob and his family run a restaurant squeezed between a funeral home and a vacant lot. The location is poor. The service is worse. Yet they return every week to try again, which is the entire engine of the show. It is a comedy that finds joy in mediocrity, turning a bad business plan into a warm, messy family portrait. With 16 seasons and 313 episodes, it is a 115-hour commitment. That is a long time to watch people fail at hospitality. But you will not look away.
What the critics said
Season 1 started with a foot in the door, or at least a toe. Metacritic scored it 60 out of 100, while Rotten Tomatoes sat at 73% across 41 reviews. The critical consensus called it a "modestly immature workplace cartoon" that needed to find its rhythm. Early reviews were blunt. The Washington Post found it "pointlessly vulgar and derivatively dull," and USA Today called it "not very tasty." It took time for the show to stop stumbling. By Season 2, Rotten Tomatoes hit 100%. Rowan Kaiser of The A.V. Club later noted it took "half a dozen episodes" before the show truly began to meet its potential.
How it did with audiences
The premiere finished 9th in the ratings for its week, a solid start that ratings expert Bill Gorman of TV by the Numbers later called a "toss up" for renewal. It was also the highest-rated series premiere of the season. The numbers shifted when the show found its stride on streaming. Nielsen Media Research reported 36.80 billion minutes of watch time in 2024, placing it fourth among streamed series. By 2025, it hit 34.08 billion minutes, ranking sixth. Disney announced in December 2025 that the series surpassed 1 billion hours on the platform that year. On TMDB, users rate it 7.8.
What came next for the cast
Kristen Schaal went from Valentine’s Day and Norbit to My Spy, The Boss, and Bill & Ted Face the Music. Eugene Mirman went from Flight of the Conchords to Confess, Fletch. The series started in 2011. It did not cause these shifts. It merely preceded them. Careers move in odd, unexplained directions.
