The consensus notes the film overcomes poor storytelling with biting commentary and fine performances. Claudia Puig of USA Today called it "a gem in a season with lots of worthy movies." Damon Wise of Empire magazine was less impressed, noting that "gripping action scenes fall prey to Hollywood logic and pat storytelling in the final hour." The performances carry the weight, even when the script does not.
