What kind of watch this is
Black Doves is a 2024 action mystery that treats marriage as a cover story. The tone leans into the absurdity of a spy pretending to be a politician’s wife while hunting a dead lover. Joe Barton’s creation runs 11 hours across 2 seasons. The hook is simple: an assassin and a spy team up for vengeance. It is the kind of show where the domestic life is the disguise, and the danger is the reality.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes reports a 94% approval rating from 70 critics as of April 2025, alongside an average score of 7.8/10. Metacritic assigns a Metascore of 78 out of 100 based on 31 reviews, indicating generally favorable reception. Le Parisien gave it 4/5. The consensus calls it a unique action-thriller that hits its target. Rebecca Nicholson of The Guardian found it "gleefully pulpy," though she raised minor reservations about the leads. David Opie of Digital Spy noted the show "ventures where James Bond would never dare go.
How it did with audiences
No box office numbers exist for this series, so the financial picture remains a mystery. The only hard data point is a 7 out of 10 score from TMDB users. That is a solid, unpretentious number. Viewers voted with their thumbs, and they liked what it saw.
