Beavis and Butt-Head (1993)
Two dimwitted teenagers discuss TV, heavy-metal music, nachos, and trying to "score with chicks." When the duo aren't sitting on the couch, they try to pick up girls at the local convenience store, slack off at school, or wreak havoc while working at a burger joint.

What kind of watch this is
Mike Judge created this animated comedy in 1993, giving voice to both protagonists in a fictional Texas town. The 11-minute episodes follow two teens who split their time between a couch, a burger joint, and the convenience store. They are defined by apathy, a love for heavy metal, and a persistent desire to "score." Rolling Stone called them "thunderously stupid and excruciatingly ugly." The Baltimore Sun noted they are "budding misogynists" in their treatment of gender. Over 8 seasons, Butt-Head emerges as the devious leader while Beavis remains the hyperactive follower. The series ended with 221 episodes, totaling 41 hours of viewing. It is a dry, unapologetic look at adolescent mediocrity.
How it did with audiences
The box office data is missing from the facts, so the money talk stays in the realm of theory. What remains is the TMDB user score of 7.1 out of 10. Viewers did not love it, exactly. They just did not hate it.
Where it left its mark
TV Guide ranked the duo’s distinct laughing at number 66 on a list of greatest TV quotes in 2005. The series later appeared on lists of top cartoons from both TV Guide and IGN. Its influence sprawled across decades, spawning parodies in The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Friends. In April 2024, Ryan Gosling and Mikey Day reprised the characters in a live-action Saturday Night Live sketch. That performance went viral and earned critical acclaim. They even returned to the roles on the red carpet for The Fall Guy premiere. The laugh has outlived the trend.
