What kind of watch this is
Baby Reindeer is a 2024 drama that turns a single cup of tea into a four-hour trap. It follows a struggling comedian whose act of kindness attracts a stalker, a dynamic that tightens until the audience feels the same mix of fear and revulsion the protagonist does. Richard Gadd wrote, stars in, and anchors the series. The show forces you to sit with the discomfort of being perceived, a sensation that lingers long after the credits roll.
What the critics said
Critics treated it with a mix of reverence and exhaustion. Rotten Tomatoes reports 99% positive reviews from 70 critics, averaging 8.7 out of 10. Metacritic assigns it 88 out of 100, a score that signals universal acclaim. The consensus calls it a bracing work of autofiction that can be a punishing watch. It rewards viewers with emotional complexity and excellent performances. The praise is loud, but the warning about punishment is equally clear. You are invited to be uncomfortable, and you will be.
How it did with audiences
Baby Reindeer skipped the box office and went straight for the couch. It debuted at number five on Netflix’s Top 10 TV English titles for the week of 8–14 April 2024, logging 10.4 million viewing hours. The next week, it jumped to number one with 52.8 million hours. It held that spot for two more weeks, racking up 87.4 and 73.6 million hours. On TMDB, users rate it 7.6 out of 10. That is a solid number.
