What kind of watch this is
Anne with an E runs 21 hours across 3 seasons. It places a young orphaned girl in the late 1890s. The hook is the friction between her unique spirit and the small town in which they live. Moira Walley-Beckett builds a story where fighting for love and acceptance is a survival strategy. The 47-minute episodes move at a pace that respects the silence of the setting. It is a drama about finding home in a place that never asked for you.
What the critics said
Palak Jayswal gives the series 5 out of 5 stars, arguing that "the remake of a classic is done better than the original." She calls the adaptation "brutal" yet realistic for an orphan girl. Erin Maxwell agrees, noting that "Anne with an E might be the most wholesome and engaging TV show that no one in America is talking about." She adds that while the narrative shifts, it wisely doesn't derail from the source material. Chad Jones calls it a "cool" adaptation, saying "this is not your grandmother's Green Gables." Jon Hersey at The Objective Standard suggests you may fall in love with it if you enjoy art that glorifies imagination.
How it did with audiences
There are no box office figures to count, so the verdict rests on a single number. TMDB users rate it 8.6 out of 10. Critics often treat ratings as arbitrary, but this score suggests the audience found something worth their time. It is a quiet success, measured in stars rather than tickets.
