What the critics said
The reception is split down the middle, which feels fitting for a film about identity. Rotten Tomatoes reports 50% positive reviews from 22 critics, with an average score of 5.2 out of 10. The site’s consensus notes that Sacha Baron Cohen "goes back to a familiar well with diminishing returns," calling it a scattershot comedy. Metacritic is less generous, assigning a weighted average of 38 out of 100 from 13 critics. That sits in the "generally unfavorable" territory.
How it did with audiences
Ali G: Who Iz I? does not have a box office figure to lean on. There is no budget to compare it against, just a TMDB user score of 5.3. That number sits in the middle of the road, where opinions split and compromise lives.
