What kind of watch this is
Above & Below is a 2026 thriller about friends who turn a diving trip into a survival fight when criminals board their boat. Director Jesse V. Johnson keeps it to 95 minutes, which is about the length of a panic attack at sea. Laura Marano plays Tatiana. It is less about who survives and more about who panics first.
What the critics said
Rotten Tomatoes lists 46% positive reviews from 13 critics, averaging 5.50 out of 10. That is a lukewarm reception for a shark movie. Robert Kojder of Flickering Myth called it "tediously frustrating" and gave it 2 out of 5. He found it better than some recent low-budget entries, which is a low bar. Emilie Black of Cinema Crazed offered a positive take, calling it a "decent" thriller. She noted it is familiar, which might be its only virtue.
How it did with audiences
